Job Overview

As a member of the Service department, the Commissioning Technician will be called upon to visit customer sites to commission, troubleshoot and upgrade PyroGenesis process equipment. Commissioning at customer sites, especially internationally, follows a pre-established process and is supported by other PyroGenesis staff.

Responsibilities & Tasks

  • With the help of software development tools (mainly Rockwell, sometimes Siemens), perform input/output, alarm, interlock and HMI or SCADA (PI) user interface tests.
  • Adjust PID control loops according to operating conditions.
  • Prepare progress reports. If necessary, and with the support of the design office: change the parameters of equipment such as measurement transmitters, variable speed drives (VFDs), high-power DC power supplies; load new versions of PLC or HMI programs; etc.
  • Assist other disciplines (mechanical, process and operations) with equipment commissioning (compressor, air dryer, nitrogen generator, shredder, burner).
  • Perform rotation tests on electric motors.
  • Troubleshoot control logic in the event of problems (GEMA, Grafcet, FBD, Ladder, instruction list) with the support of the programming team.
  • Provide instructions to site electricians for system corrections.
  • Operate systems at customer sites during their learning phase.
  • Perform other duties as required by the immediate supervisor and for which the person is qualified.

Education & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or College diploma in electrical engineering or automated production engineering or in a related field
  • Good knowledge of safety measures applicable to systems commissioning
  • Available to travel within Canada and internationally
  • Able to work overtime if required
  • Able to work evenings, nights and weekends if required during commissioning
  • Excellent ability to work in a team as well as individually
  • Good physical condition (able to lift 50 lb loads)
  • Bilingual English and French (written and spoken)

Experience

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in an industrial environment
  • Experience with live working (600VAC maximum)
  • Experience with hydraulic and pneumatic systems is an asset
  • Experience with gas burners is an asset
